Extended Education

Extended Education Programs

The Regional Cooperative Summer School operates multiple summer school sites throughout the Broome-Tioga BOCES region. The goal of the Regional Cooperative Summer School is to encourage advancement and to provide students with an opportunity to maintain their grade level status in an effort to close gaps that cause students to fail or drop out. We encourage teachers to design and teach courses that will remediate areas of concern and create success for all students. These include new credit half-year courses, courses in writing and reading for the content area, and lessons in study skills and transitioning to 9th grade.

This service provides districts the opportunity to offer enrichment courses that allow students to explore school-year offerings with a deeper intensity. These hands-on, experimental learning opportunities help districts meet their goals to improve student achievement. Enrichment allows students to learn and have fun in a challenging but relaxed environment with a lower student-teacher ratio. Three terms are offered: fall/winter (September - January), spring (January - June), and Summer (July - August). NOTE: transportation, food costs and admission tickets are not aidable under this service.

Extracurricular Activities include Odyssey of the Mind, a creative problem-solving competition for students of all ages from various schools; Spontaneous Workshop, a two-hour workshop designed to teach strategies for success with creative problems that are featured during Odyssey of the Mind competition; and Celebrate Your Future, an event that demonstrates the range of services and programs available in our community to individuals with disabilities.

Instructional Coordination - Other include Home Schooling Liaison for students whose parent(s)/guardian(s) elect to educate their children at home; Home Tutoring, which can be arranged through BOCES for students who are legally absent for a prolonged period of time; and Itinerant Teachers, under which two or more districts may request that BOCES coordinate common needs for shared teachers or other staff members.
